Getting Started with VRML

VRML

VRML - Virtual Reality Modeling Language. VRML is an extensible language used to create 3d content. Points, lines, vectors, shapes, and nodes are graphed in a 3d universe. Node's can be removed, replaced, or modified in real time by other nodes, or by user input.

VRML has survived 2 version updates and still remains alive today. Any 3d program worth its salt should be able to output or import vrml content. Your browser can view and navigate 3d vrml content. Several free plugins are available to you and are simple to install. Many use the OpenGL framework meaning, if you have a computer, it can display without problems.

For Windows platforms, we like the Blaxxun Contact plugin. A very powerful API and engine. Blaxxun Plugin

My first rendered world made with perl. Taken from a photo of the moon dynamically converted to an imagemap with imagemagick, then into vrml as a height elevation. See the Terrain Maker tool for more info. 3D Moonland

Also, i highly recommend the book "VRML Sourcebook 2.0" by Andrea Ames. It is a great first read for anyone wanting to learn 3D. I own it and have read it cover to cover several times. It not only teaches you VRML, but also takes you right into the fundamentals of all 3d programs and applications. Getting a firm grip on those is the only real way to get started. Hopefully there is a link in the right menu to this very book from Amazon.

And one more thing! You can download our Custom 3D Viewer application right from this site. As noted earlier, you will need the free blaxxun plugin for this program to work. But once you have the blaxxun program installed you are ready to download our 3D Browser.
