Maya Find Window Panel Help

Maya This page is for searchers. So many, many times i have been on my way from point A to point B in Maya, and i find out there's 16 little points inside A which prevent me from going to B. In my case, the majority of times, the major stumbling block with learning Maya has been finding the freaking menu panel i need to accomplish something. The Maya help docs are great, but it took a couple of months for me to run across this little diddy. Next time you cannot find the menu or panel you so desperately need in Maya, try searching for it as explained below. This is a simple but really helpful Maya tip for beginners.

The option is called "Find menu item". Find it in Maya from your File menu under Help >> Find Menu. It's a great idea and i wish Max had it. You can type in a keyword and every single panel, menu, tray, shelf, or anything else you can think off that is a program edit option screen will come up in the search. Best of all a full map location to that panel is displayed inside Maya.

A query for polygon for example retrieves the following:

Edit->Select All by Type->Polygon Geometry
Modify->Convert->NURBS to Polygons
Modify->Convert->Polygons to Subdiv
Modify->Convert->Subdiv To Polygons
Modify->Convert->Paint Effects To Polygons
Modify->Convert->Displacement to Polygons
Modify->Convert->Fluid To Polygons
Create->Polygon Primitives
Display->Hide->Hide Geometry->Polygon Surfaces
Display->Show->Show Geometry->Polygon Surfaces
Display->Polygon Components
Display->Custom Polygon Display
Polygons->Create Polygon Tool
Polygons->Append to Polygon Tool
Edit Polygons->Split Polygon Tool
Edit Polygons->Sculpt Polygons Tool
Subdiv Surfaces->Polygon Proxy Mode

I lost my little command prompt window one day and this was the only way i could find how to show it again. That was after searching madly through the Maya help docs. That's my tip, don't wear it out.
