Three animated gears in StudioMax. Here's a great starter file for you to build from. It's a 3dsmax .max file with an animated gear rotating around the z axis. The gear is instanced to produce three gears, the center gear is rotated 180 degress and then spun 10 degress so all the gears mesh. Animation is 100 frames in max, each gear is animated inside of itself. You can add more gears simply by instancing (or copying) the current gears. Units are in chunks of 10 around the radius of the gear. The gear teeth are 1 unit protruding. This means move a gear 21.5 units in any direction to line up another gear. The gear is built so that the repeat is seemless in the max file. This means you can make your own 500 frame scene by looping the gear max file 5 times. This was written in Studio Max version 3.1.
