What's wrong with the voice i installed?

PoserSpeak does not come with voices. Each voice vendor will provide a unique installer for their companies voice. If you have trouble with a new voice you purchased, please contact the voice vendor. I highly recommend NextUp.com for your voice purchasing needs. There staff is very responsive and helpful with their customers. See our board topic on adding new voices for more info on third-party voice vendors.

If a new voice is not properly installed in your computer, it may not show up as a choice inside PoserSpeak. One way to test your voice is to tell PoserSpeak you have the voice instead of making it ask your Operating System. The following are instructions for manually setting your voices in PoserSpeak. This step is not recommended as it means your voices are not fully installed.
Open Notepad.exe (or any ascii text editor) and edit this file:

    C:/Program Files/3dtrue/PoserSpeak/bin/pref.nv
Add the following line to the bottom of the file:
    CUSTOM_VOICES|Cepstral Diane:Microsoft Sam:NeoSpeech Kate 16k:NeoSpeech Paul
Notice how each voice is sperated by a colon. You can have as many voices as you like. The voice names must be spelled and capatilized correctly. The above is just an example, but notice how Kate and Paul are different. Only your voice manufacturer can control the name of your voice. Make sure your voices are installed correctly to avoid any problems. Save the file and exit your text editor.

In Poser, load your character, choose the head and open PoserSpeak. Test your voice. If the voice works, PoserSpeak is not able to find it registered in your operating system. Please reinstall the voice that is giving you trouble.

Windows Speech Errors? If you open "Windows Start > Control Panels > Speech" and preview each voice you should be able to hear each voice you have installed. If not, then SAPI5 may be damaged or not installed correctly. If your SAPI5 install is possibly corrupt, you can try this: On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, SAPI is installed with the operating system. If a speech program uninstalls the necessary SAPI registry keys, it may be necessary to back up to a previous system restore point to restore the Operating System's speech functionality. If System Restore is not a possibility, you may also try the following to work around this:

  1. Locate the following file: C:/WINDOWS/inf/sapi5.inf
  2. Right-click the file and select "Install"
Poser Speech Plug-in
